It’s a Shore Thing Correspondent

To encourage patronage of locals by locals, It’s a Shore Thing has visited shops owned and operated by Virginia Beach residents so that you can get a peek at what they offer to you, their neighbors. This is the first article of the series.

Pacific Place Shopping Center

Pacific Place Shopping Center is located at the corner of 32nd Street and Pacific Avenue at the Oceanfront. Its shops are boutique in nature and offer a wide selection of goods and services to discriminating shoppers.

Atlantic Cleaners  The motto of this family business is, “Cleaning the beach, one shirt at a time,” and it prides itself on laundering shirts to a “beautiful finish.”  Bill McClanan has two store locations, one in Pacific Place and one on Great Neck Road. Although his mom and dad opened the Great Neck Shoppes store many years ago, he successfully expanded to Pacific Place nine years ago. AtlanticCleanersvb.com; 757-428-3553.

Beecroft & Bull  This highly regarded men’s clothing store, in business since 1958, is known for carrying exclusive lines. It has three store locations, the others being in Richmond and Charlottesville. Craig Beecroft says, “While we still offer fine men’s suits, we are more casual-oriented than we used to be.”  Beecroft & Bull also offers tailoring services. BeecroftandBull.com; 757-422-1961.

Bikini Hut  This woman’s boutique specializes in resort wear and accessories, but offers clothing for all seasons. The “Hut” opened in 1971 and has been operated by owner Ashley Wilcox since 1985. Her other store location is on Shore Drive. Ashley has decided to expand her clothing lines and is now offering Joseph Ribkoff, Frank Lyman, Stop Staring and Before and Again. She also will soon offer bathing suits for large-busted clients. 757-428-3339.

Perked Up! Café  This cozy café, owned by Paula Craw, has been open for four years. It features coffees locally roasted by Williamsburg Coffee Company, freshly baked muffins, cupcakes and quiche. In addition to breakfast, Paula serves lunch, including her justifiably famous-among-locals chicken salad. She also sells napkins, cards, mugs and ornaments, changing the selection with the seasons. PerkedUpCoffee.com; 757-422-0032.

The Sterling Seahorse  Cathy Walsh, owner of The Sterling Seahorse, is a well-known interior designer. Although she has been in business for 25 years, she opened her Pacific Place shop only three years ago. She offers fine home furnishings and custom accessories with an emphasis on elegant coastal design. She prides herself that her pieces are one-of-a kind and often crafted by local artists. TheSterlingSeahorse.com; 757-428-3455.

Salon 3200  Owned by Corinne Barbato, Salon 3200 has been in business for 24 years.  Corinne provides every hair care and nail care service available for both women and men.  She carries TIGI cosmetics, the only salon in the area to carry this exclusive line. Salon 3200 is well known for its keratin treatments. Salon3200.com; 757-491-3200.
