Senior Services to Host 2013 Medicare Health Fair & Expo

Come to the fair and expo to learn about Medicare basics, estate planning, reinventing retirement, successful aging, Medicare fraud, home care options, hospice, advanced care initiatives, retirement housing options, the Affordable Care Act and more!
Navigating the Medicare health care system can be a confusing process for seniors approaching 65 and those who are already enrolled.

To help bridge the knowledge gap, Medicare beneficiaries and other interested parties from all over the Hampton Roads region are invited to attend Senior Services’ inaugural Annual Medicare Health Fair & Expo, Nov. 16, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, 1000 19th St. in Virginia Beach.

Senior Services, a regional non-profit organization that helps seniors and adults with disabilities live with choice and dignity in their communities, has developed a full-day program featuring two keynote panel sessions and three sets of concurrent workshops geared specifically to the concerns of individuals about to enroll and those already enrolled in Medicare.

The morning keynote session will address “The Future of Healthcare in America,” featuring expert panelists:

  • Rep. Scott Rigell, 2nd District, (Va.) and
  • Joanne Corte Grossi, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Regional Director, Region III

The luncheon keynote session will focus on “The Affordable Care Act and the Future of Healthcare in Virginia,” featuring expert panelists:

  • Dr. William Hazel, Commonwealth of Virginia Secretary of Health and Human Resources and
  • James Rothrock, Commissioner of the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services

WHRV Public Radio talk show host Barbara Hamm Lee will moderate both panels.

In addition to the two keynote panels, the Medicare Health Fair & Expo will offer three tracts of concurrent workshops, scheduled both in the morning and in the afternoon and to address the concerns of people who will soon enroll in Medicare and people already enrolled, along with on-site Medicare enrollment assistance and individual one-on-one benefits counseling. Senior Services’ benefits counselors will also be on-site throughout the day offering one-on-one benefits counseling sessions and enrollment assistance. An estimated 75 exhibitors are expected to participate.

Tickets are $15 per person which includes continental breakfast and lunch. Tickets may be purchased online at or by calling Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia at (757) 461-9481 by Oct. 30.
