Second Sale Consignments buys single items or whole estates

truck-1 (2)

Almost two years ago, after leaving the building business due to the recession, Bob Burns had an idea that took him back to his pre-building days when he ran antique stores in the Ghent section of Norfolk. He’d seen a depressed economy in those days in the 1970s and he knew that people were looking to do two things: to sell things they didn’t need and to buy gently used items at a discounted price.

He took this idea and turned it into Second Sale Consignments – a furniture consignment shop in the heart of Downtown Great Bridge in Chesapeake. Located in the former Great Bridge Pharmacy Building, Second Sale Consignments has become a local’s favorite – a place where the inventory changes daily, sometimes hourly, depending on what comes through the door.

Although the store originally opened with the idea that folks could consign their furniture, he quickly realized that most people were looking for a convenient way to get a lot of their belongings out of their home at one time. Many people in the Great Bridge area were downsizing and moving into smaller and less labor intensive condos or apartments. They needed to pare down their larger homes into the essentials, but didn’t want to spend the enormous amount of time that yard sales and Craig’s List ads can take. Soon Bob had moved the store from consignment sales to estate purchasing. Although he does still take the occasional consignment item, the majority of inventory in the store is bought outright.

For many people, this offers an invaluable convenience. Bob will come to your home, review the items you’d like to sell and give you a flat price. Once a price is agreed upon, he will come back with his moving crew and truck and load the items up and take them away for you. You get cash, he gets inventory and you don’t have to hire movers or worry about classified ad folks showing up to your house at all hours of the day or night.

If you’re interested in selling some furniture or antique items in your home, call Bob Burns at Second Sale Consignments at 757-482-6617 or you can email him pictures of your items and get a quote online at secondsaleconsignments@gmail.com

In addition to furniture and antiques, Bob is also a certified silver and gold purchaser. If you have jewelry you’d like to get rid of or gold or silver coins and other items, bring them into the store:  Mondays and Fridays 10am-7pm and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10am-6pm.
